The National Insurance Commission (NIC) and the insurance industry in Ghana have launched a blood donation campaign to support the National Blood Service (NBS) in saving lives.
The initiative was successfully launched with the aim of encouraging other institutions in the country to follow suit and donate blood to address the shortage in blood banks.
Mr. Michael Kofi Ando, the acting Commissioner of Insurance, urged other organizations to emulate the NIC and the insurance industry’s efforts to donate blood.
He expressed the industry’s commitment to donating more blood to the National Blood Service in an attempt to surpass the record set in 2022.
Dr. Emmanuel Srofenyo, the Medical Director of the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, appealed to corporate bodies, institutions, and individuals to voluntarily donate blood to support the Blood Bank and save lives.
Dr. Shirley Owusu-Ofori, the CEO of the National Blood Service, expressed gratitude to the insurance industry for their initiative and commitment to saving lives through voluntary blood donations.
She commended the NIC for mobilizing both insurance industry players and members of the public to donate blood in all regions of Ghana.
