The Youth Wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has dismissed the three-day protest organized by the pressure group Democracy Hub.
In a statement, the Youth Organizer of the NPP, Salam Mustapha, expressed his doubts regarding the protest’s purpose and demands.
Mustapha mentioned that he had difficulty identifying a clear and substantial reason for the protest, aside from general issues such as road infrastructure, the cost of living, and other tangential matters.
He criticized the police’s actions during the first day of the #OccupyJulorbiHouse demonstration and emphasized the importance of law enforcement learning from past events to prevent similar incidents.
While acknowledging that Ghanaians are facing economic difficulties, Mustapha assured that the government is committed to improving the economy and addressing these challenges.
He expressed trust in the government’s efforts and its track record of addressing economic issues.
The protests, which occurred over three days, were linked to economic hardships, high living costs, and job shortages. While protesters expressed their grievances, some were arrested, including journalists covering the events, which sparked concerns about freedom of expression and assembly.
The protests took place against the backdrop of Ghana’s economic crisis, characterized by high levels of public debt.
