Accra Regional Police Commander summoned over use of excessive force during #OccupyJulorbiHouse Demonstration”

The Accra Regional Police Commander, COP Sayibu Gariba, has been summoned by the Police Management Board (POMAB) to provide explanations regarding the use of excessive force by the police during the #OccupyJulorbiHouse demonstration.

The protesters were rallying against the government’s economic policies and alleged corruption when they were met with what is seen as disproportionate force by the police on Thursday, September 21. Nearly 50 protesters, including journalists, were arrested during the incident.

The public outrage over the incident has prompted the Police Service to take the matter seriously.

They have initiated an inquiry into the incident and have called on COP Gariba to provide an account of what transpired. Additionally, a full investigation will be conducted to address the incident thoroughly.

The Police Service has also issued an apology to the public for any inconvenience caused during the three-day protests.
