The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) conducted inspections of various shops in parts of Accra as part of its efforts to ensure electronic tax compliance.
These inspections were aimed at enhancing transparency in tax collections and were carried out in collaboration with selected businesses.
Several shops were included in the exercise, such as New Horizone Coldstore, Glorious Shoppers Delight, Kriskay Kiddies, Uncle Sas Autoparts, Sunset Glow Fashion, Opfa Mart Enterprise, Rhema Batteries, Andy Foods, and T6 Enterprise.
The selected shops were chosen to participate in a pilot program for the electronic Value Added Tax (VAT) initiative.
Assistant Commissioner Joseph Annang, the Accra Area Manager for Enforcement at the GRA, addressed the media following the inspections.
He explained that the GRA suspected some of the shops of issuing VAT invoices outside the electronic system provided by the GRA. As a result, the owners of these businesses are required to visit the GRA office to provide statements.
Assistant Commissioner Joseph Annang further stated that the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) would take over the cases for further investigation.
