Wenchi Methodist Hospital: Healthcare crisis looms as trained health workers migrate abroad

The Medical Superintendent of Wenchi Methodist Hospital in the Bono region, Dr. Appiah Kubi, has issued a heartfelt plea to the government to address the critical issue of healthcare professionals leaving the country to seek employment opportunities abroad.

Dr. Appiah Kubi revealed that in the last 21 months, an alarming 33 doctors and nurses at Wenchi Methodist Hospital have left their posts to pursue career opportunities abroad.

Expressing his deep concern, Dr. Appiah Kubi emphasized the importance of promptly replacing these health workers to maintain the standards of healthcare provision in Ghana.

He called on the government to take action by recruiting unemployed doctors and nurses to fill these vacancies and safeguard the healthcare sector’s integrity.

Stephen Opoku Frimpong, the Human Resource Manager at Wenchi Methodist Hospital, highlighted the need for the government to provide financial clearance for the posting of doctors and nurses to critical healthcare facilities.

This move, he argued, would help alleviate the strain caused by the migration of health professionals and ensure the continued provision of quality healthcare services to Ghanaians.
