Trade Advocacy Group Ghana (TAGG) has voiced deep concerns about the alleged illegal collection of taxes by the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Customs and Domestic Division, after the clearance of goods at various ports.

The organization has pointed out that this practice has severely impacted traders’ businesses and sales.

Mr. Kwadwo Amoateng, the President of Trade Advocacy Group Ghana, addressed the media and stressed that these alleged extortions by tax forces within the country’s ports are having a detrimental financial impact on traders.

He went on to express his belief that this alleged extortion is a deliberate and intentional act, affecting not only traders in general but particularly those in the Ashanti Region.

TAGG’s president took the opportunity to caution the public against blaming traders when there are increases in the prices of goods.

He emphasized that traders are facing financial hardships due to these alleged tax extortions, which ultimately affect their ability to offer competitive prices to consumers.

The organization is calling for a thorough investigation into these allegations and is urging the Ghana Revenue Authority to address the concerns raised by traders and the general public.

TAGG seeks transparency and fairness in the taxation and customs clearance processes to ensure a conducive environment for business operations in Ghana.
