Electoral Commission denies voter disenfranchisement allegations amid Limited Voter Registration Exercise

The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has firmly refuted claims of voter disenfranchisement during the ongoing limited voter registration exercise.

These allegations, primarily raised by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), suggest that the EC is deliberately hindering registration efforts, particularly in NDC strongholds, by deploying faulty registration machines.

The NDC had also accused the EC of collaborating with the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to disenfranchise eligible voters.

In response to these allegations, the EC’s Chairperson, Jean Mensa, held a press conference to address the concerns.

During the conference, Mensa categorically denied the allegations, asserting that they were baseless and untrue.

She assured the public that the EC is committed to conducting a fair and transparent registration exercise, free from partisan influence.

While acknowledging that there have been challenges during the registration process, Jean Mensa emphasized that the EC has taken swift action to address these issues, ensuring that the registration exercise continues smoothly.

She urged all eligible voters to participate in the process and assured them that their voices would be heard in the upcoming elections.
