Otumfuo Osei Tutu II urges African Nations to reject Coups, prioritize economic development

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the King of the Asante Kingdom, has strongly advocated against coups as a means of addressing political challenges on the African continent.

In a keynote address delivered at a summit hosted by St. Andrew’s University in Scotland, he emphasized that regardless of the circumstances, overthrowing elected governments is not the solution.

The African continent has witnessed several coups in recent times, particularly in the West African region. Countries such as Burkina Faso, Mali, Guinea, Niger, and most recently, Angola, have experienced political upheavals through coups.

King Otumfuo Osei Tutu II used the platform to stress the importance of fixing the economies of African nations and providing employment opportunities for the youth.

He highlighted that economic stability and job creation are critical factors in addressing the root causes of political instability and coups.
