The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) is currently conducting an assessment of the aftermath of the devastating fire that engulfed the CMB market in Accra on Sunday.
The fire broke out at approximately 5:00 a.m. on Sunday, causing extensive destruction to hundreds of homes and shops, leaving countless residents in a state of distress.
Prompt responses from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) were mobilized to tackle the blaze, but it had already spread rapidly, engulfing numerous shops by the time they arrived on the scene.
The cause of the fire remains unknown and is currently under investigation. The flames wrought havoc, reducing several shops to ashes, and residents affected by the disaster expressed their frustration and sadness, as many of them lost their livelihoods and possessions.
Daniel Appiah, the Klottey–Korle Municipal Director of NADMO, revealed that temporary accommodations have been secured for the victims of the fire.
In contrast, ADO1 Alex Nartey, a Public Relations Officer of the GNFS, highlighted the discovery of various flammable materials at the fire site.
