During their Speech and Prize Giving Day, Papase Divine Mercy R/C Basic School in Adjen Kotoku Papase, Accra, called upon various stakeholders to lend their support towards improving the school’s development.
In an exclusive interview with Reverend Father Sylvester Segbawu, the Local Manager of Divine Mercy R/C Basic School, he expressed that their motivation stems from the command of the Lord Jesus Christ, found in Mathew 28:18-20, which instructs them to teach all things.
Father Sylvester Segbawu highlighted the partnership between the government and the church, where the government covers teacher salaries. However, he noted a pressing need for government support, particularly in addressing the overcrowding issue in the classrooms.
“In some cases, one class alone accommodates about eighty students, with three students sharing a single desk,” he said.
The school appeals to the government for assistance to improve classroom conditions.
Furthermore, Reverend Father Sylvester Segbawu urged cement companies such as GHACEM and Gyata Cement, among others, to step in and support the school in constructing a fence wall and undertaking various developmental projects on the school premises.
Mr. Daniel Kofi Amfoh, the Parent-Teacher Association (P.T.A) Chairman, echoed the importance of the school’s Speech and Prize Giving Day.
He explained that it serves as an opportunity to raise funds for essential projects, particularly the completion of the school’s fence wall. He cited an incident where a mentally ill individual entered a classroom, highlighting the urgency of securing the school premises.
Mr. Amfoh also urged parents to invest in their children’s education by providing them with basic necessities like biscuits and pencils.
He encouraged parents to play an active role in their children’s education rather than solely relying on government support.
