The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ahafo Region has strongly refuted allegations made by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) regarding the recent increase in cocoa prices.
The NDC held a press conference in Dadiesoaba, Asutifi South of the Ahafo region, where they accused the NPP government and COCOBOD of offering cocoa farmers a price that falls well below international market rates.
The NDC argued that cocoa farmers should receive GHS 2,500 per bag instead of GHS 1,308.
In response, the NPP held its own press conference in Dadiesoaba, where John Osei Frimpong, Chairman of the Food, Agriculture, and Cocoa Affairs Committee of Parliament, defended the government’s position. He characterized the NDC’s claims as an attempt to mislead the public.
John Osei Frimpong further highlighted the government’s efforts to enhance cocoa productivity, leading to increased output from cocoa farms across the country.
These productivity enhancement interventions, according to him, have contributed to a boost in cocoa production, ultimately benefiting cocoa farmers.
