In a significant move to combat the alarming decline in fish stocks, the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development in Ghana has announced a three-year moratorium, effectively banning new entrants of canoes into the marine sector.

The decision, revealed by the Sector Minister, Mavis Hawa Koomson, is part of a comprehensive strategy to address the pressing issue of dwindling fish resources in the country.

Commencing on October 1, 2023, this policy will prevent the introduction of any new canoes into the fisheries sector for a three-year duration. Minister Mavis Hawa Koomson made this announcement while addressing the media.
