Headmistress appeals for urgent intervention to address challenges at Asem Boys Basic School

The Headmistress of Asem Boys Basic School, Mrs. Comfort Fosu, has made a heartfelt appeal to the government and philanthropic organizations to intervene and address the significant challenges impeding effective teaching and learning at the school.

During the Graduation and Speech and Prize-Giving Day ceremony held at the school premises, Mrs. Comfort Fosu outlined the pressing issues that have been plaguing the institution.

One of the foremost issues highlighted by Mrs. Fosu is the lack of adequate infrastructure. The school faces severe space constraints that hinder the smooth conduct of academic activities. The absence of a suitable environment for teaching and learning, according to her, has been a longstanding issue that requires immediate attention.

In addition to infrastructure woes, Mrs. Fosu emphasized the critical need for electricity and a dedicated Computer Laboratory. She stressed that access to electricity and a computer lab is essential for enhancing the study of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) among students. Without these facilities, students are disadvantaged in acquiring essential digital skills.

Furthermore, the Headmistress called upon the government to connect the school to the National grid. The absence of electricity not only affects academic activities but also limits the school’s capacity to offer modern educational resources.

Mrs. Comfort Fosu’s appeal also extended to the broader community, as she implored government agencies and benevolent organizations to provide assistance to the school.

She believes that with the necessary support, Asem Boys Basic School can overcome its challenges and provide a conducive learning environment for its students.

Mr. Agyenim Boateng, the School Improvement Support Officer (SISO) at Asem Circuit, expressed deep concern about the numerous challenges confronting the school.

He highlighted that the school’s location has become a hub for individuals with various social issues, including vagrants, armed robbers, and wandering livestock. These issues, he noted, pose significant safety and security concerns for both students and staff.

Mr. Boateng used the opportunity to call upon the Mayor of Kumasi, Honorable Samuel Pyne, and relevant institutions to urgently intervene and support the school.

He specifically appealed for the construction of a perimeter fence around the school premises, which would not only enhance security but also deter criminal activities and unauthorized access to the school grounds.
