Anchoring Democracy Advocacy Movement Ghana (ADAM-GH), has urged all members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) party to allow former President John Dramani Mahama the freedom to choose his running mate for the upcoming 2024 general elections.
ADAM-GH expressed concern over reports of certain NDC party members vigorously lobbying for the position of running mate, creating unnecessary tension within the party.
The organization emphasized that the decision on who best complements the former President in his bid for victory in 2024 should be left to him, in line with the party’s strategic plans.
“We caution against any undue pressure or lobbying for the running mate position,” the notice stated.
“Former President John Dramani Mahama has demonstrated sound judgment in the past when choosing his running mate, and we should respect his prerogative to make the decision for the upcoming elections,” it added.
ADAM-GH reminded stakeholders of the past appointments made by John Dramani Mahama, where both the late Vice President Paa K. B Amisah Arthur and Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang were selected without engaging in media or social media campaigns. The organization commended the former President for making wise and calculated choices.
ADAM-GH also called on individuals with presidential ambitions to engage in fair competition without resorting to projecting their supporters for the running mate position on social media.
The organization further advised against strategic withdrawals from the race, urging candidates to respect the party’s unity and trust in the former President’s leadership.
“Unity and continuity are paramount in crucial moment. Former President John Dramani Mahama’s decision to maintain Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang as running mate would foster cohesion within the party and bolster their chances of success in the 2024 general elections,” the notice stated.
