Following the tragic incident in Tema where two fishermen lost their lives in a canoe collision, a 5-member committee has been established to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
The committee comprises representatives from various agencies, including the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID), National Intelligence Bureau, Fire Service, and a representative from the Tema Metropolitan Assembly.
Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, Yohanne Amarh Ashitey, who heads the Metropolitan Security Council, announced the formation of the committee and emphasized its mandate to uncover the truth about the incident and the factors that led to the collision and deaths.
The committee has been given a period of 10 days to conduct its investigation and submit its report.
The purpose of the investigation is to provide clarity and put an end to any speculations or conflicting reports surrounding the tragedy. By understanding the sequence of events and the possible causes of the accident, the report aims to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority has released a press statement denying any responsibility for the accident. The authority has been previously linked to the boat that collided with the canoe.
