Former President John Dramani Mahama has expressed that his deep love for the country has driven him to offer himself to serve Ghana once again and work towards bringing positive change.
He recently won the National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential primaries, positioning himself as the party’s candidate for the 2024 general elections.
This comes after his previous candidacies in the 2016 and 2020 elections, where he lost to the current President, Nana Akufo Addo. Notably, he has already served one term as President of Ghana.
Despite his decisive victory in the primaries, John Dramani Mahama humbly emphasizes that he presented himself as a candidate to the NDC delegates, and they, in turn, saw him as the best choice to lead the country again, especially during these challenging times when the economy is struggling and Ghana has sought assistance from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Drawing an analogy to military generals being recalled to duty during times of war, Mahama sees Ghanaians’ desire for his leadership as a similar situation.
