Following the leaked tape containing alleged plans to remove the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has taken action by directing the establishment of a seven-member special committee.
The committee’s primary task is to conduct a thorough investigation into the authenticity and credibility of the leaked tape, as demanded by the minority caucus of Parliament.
The committee will consist of three Members of Parliament from both the Majority and Minority caucuses, and they will be supported by a technical expert.
The Speaker has set a deadline of one week for the disclosure of the names of the committee members from each side of the house.
In the midst of these developments, the government has vehemently denied the existence of any clandestine plot to remove the Inspector General of Police.
Interior Minister Ambrose Dery, in a press conference held in Parliament, dismissed the allegations as baseless and unfounded. He emphasized the importance of maintaining the integrity and independence of the police force, particularly during the electoral process.
The government urges the public to disregard the allegations and remain focused on ensuring a fair and transparent electoral environment.
