Former Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Mike Ocquaye, has expressed his concern over the prevalence of mediocrity in the country’s politics, stating that it has undermined the purpose of democratic governance.
According to Prof. Ocquaye, individuals are no longer appointed to positions of authority based on their merits, but rather on personal relationships.
Speaking as the Chairman of the 110th Birthday celebration of the late Prime Minister, Dr. Kofi Abrefa Busia, in Accra, Prof. Ocquaye highlighted the exemplary leadership qualities exhibited by former President John Kuffour and former Senior Minister J.H. Mensah, both of whom were mentored by Dr. Busia.
He emphasized that these leaders demonstrated the importance of developing talents and called on current political leaders to learn from Dr. Busia’s style of leadership for the benefit of Ghana.
In his remarks, Lands and Natural Resources Minister, Samuel Abu Jinapor, acknowledged the relevance and continued usefulness of Dr. Busia’s ideas and visions in today’s politics and governance.
He emphasized the need to draw inspiration from Dr. Busia’s principles and apply them to address the challenges facing the country.
The event served as an opportunity to reflect on the legacy of Dr. Kofi Abrefa Busia and his contributions to Ghana’s political landscape.
