The groundbreaking ceremony for the Legacy of Hope and Childhood Cancer Hospital project took place in Adjen Kotoku, Greater Accra Region, under the leadership of Catholic Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, Archbishop John Bonaventure Kwofie, and Auxiliary Bishops Anthony Narh Asare and John Kobina Louis.
The project aims to construct a modern children’s hospital to improve healthcare for young ones in the community.
During a media briefing, Bishop Kobina Louis, the Auxiliary Bishop of Adjen Kotoku Catholic Church, highlighted the need for more children’s hospitals in Ghana.
According to him, currently, there is only one children’s hospital in the entire country, making this project significant in addressing the healthcare needs of children.
He stated that the construction of the hospital is set to commence this month, as the project has been handed over to the contractor and with a budget of 31 million Ghana cedis, the hospital is expected to be completed within a year.
The primary focus of the facility, according to Bishop Kobina Louis, will be to provide medical care for children with cancer, as research has shown that children are susceptible to this disease as well.
Bishop Louis emphasized that the hospital will accept the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) Card, allowing parents to afford the charges associated with their child’s treatment.
By incorporating the NHIS, the hospital aims to ensure that healthcare services are accessible and affordable to all families.
