Gyakye Quayson’s application for stay in criminal case dismissed by High Court

The High Court has dismissed the application for a stay filed by Assin North MP James Gyakye Quayson in his ongoing criminal case.

The Court stated that the arguments presented by his counsel did not meet the required threshold for the application to be granted. However, Mr. Quayson’s lead counsel, Tsatsu Tsikata, expressed disappointment with the ruling and announced their intention to file an application with the Court of Appeal, seeking a stay of proceedings.

Mr. Tsikata submitted a request for the court to halt the proceedings to allow the Court of Appeal to review the trial judge’s decision to conduct the case on a daily basis.

The Accra High Court had previously delivered a ruling on June 23, 2023, dismissing the applicant’s motion for a review and/or variation of previous court orders dated June 16, 2023.

Despite the court’s ruling, the NDC group in Parliament was expected to boycott sittings in Assin North due to the ongoing case.
