Ghanaian sprint sensation Edwin Kwabla Gadayi has once again showcased his incredible speed by recording a remarkable time of 9.84 seconds (hand time) in the 100m dash at the GNPC Ghana Fastest Human meet held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
The ongoing search for the 2023 Ghana Fastest Human preliminaries witnessed Edwin shattering the 9.90-second barrier, reaffirming his status as one of the nation’s top sprinters.
This achievement echoes his performance in 2022 when he clocked a similar time, establishing a local record. During the LOC 2023 Invitational Championship in Cape Coast last year, Edwin set a national record in the 200m dash, finishing with a time of 20.85 seconds.
His remarkable feat became the fastest time ever recorded by a local athlete in Ghana.
In 2019, Edwin was selected to represent Ghana in the 4x100m relay at the World Athletics Championships held in Doha, Qatar.
Alongside Olympians Benjamin Azamati, Martin Antwi, and Sean Safo-Antwi, Edwin showcased his talents on the global stage. Currently, he is the only one among the quartet who remains in the country.
The GNPC Ghana Fastest Human meet in Kumasi was a resounding success, with numerous athletes delivering exceptional performances and achieving extraordinary results. In the senior female category of the 100m dash, Janet Mensah claimed victory with a time of 11.39 seconds, followed by Anita Afrifa in second place with 11.66 seconds, and Amanda Yeboah from St Louis Senior High School in third place with a time of 12.03 seconds.
The event also showcased impressive performances from young athletes across various age groups. Among the standout performers were Felix Anorigiya from Nana Bosoma Athletics Club in the U15 boys’ category, and Isaac Sarfo from OKESS in the U18 boys’ category, who clinched first place in their respective events.
Edwin Gadayi’s exceptional achievement in the 100m dash once again highlights his extraordinary talent and the potential for future success on both national and international stages. As he continues to excel in his athletic career, Gadayi’s achievements serve as an inspiration to aspiring sprinters in Ghana.
