During a visit to the National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO) by members of the Minority leadership, including Minority Leader Cassiel Ato Forson and North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, tensions escalated as Agriculture Minister Bryan Acheampong entered the scene.
The Minority members had visited the facility to assess the ongoing protests by aggrieved food suppliers who were demanding payment for their supplies to schools.
The presence of Minister Acheampong sparked heated exchanges between him and the MPs, with accusations being thrown from both sides.
The Agriculture Minister accused the Minority of fueling what he described as an “inorganic picketing” by the food suppliers.
In the midst of the confrontation, the National Food Suppliers Association reiterated their lack of trust in any negotiation process initiated by the National Food Buffer Stock Company to address the issue of outstanding debt.
The group has been staging a protest at the buffer stock company’s premises for the past 72 hours, demanding payment of approximately GHȼ270 million owed to them.
