Members of the National Food Suppliers Association continue to stay overnight at the premises of the National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO) as they demand payment for their outstanding arrears dating back over two years.
The suppliers, hailing from different regions of Ghana, have been at the NAFCO premises since Monday evening, determined to have their grievances addressed.
Despite their efforts, the suppliers have not received the desired response and have decided to remain at the premises until their payment is made in full.
In response to the situation, the Speaker of Parliament has directed the Ministers of Agriculture, Finance, and Education to appear before the house to provide answers regarding the owed funds to the food suppliers.
The Minority in Parliament specifically requested the presence of these three ministers in relation to the ongoing protest by the food suppliers at NAFCO.
The government currently owes an amount of GH¢270 million to the food suppliers for the supply of food to Senior High Schools nationwide from 2021 to 2023.
It is expected that the Ministers, Bryan Acheampong, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, and Ken Ofori-Atta, will address the House and outline their plans to settle the debts owed to the food suppliers.
