Amnesty International Ghana condemns Parliament’s support for Anti-LGBT Bill

Amnesty International Ghana has expressed strong condemnation towards lawmakers in the country who have unanimously supported a redrafted anti-LGBT bill.

The proposed bill aims to impose a three-year prison sentence on individuals who identify as LGBT. Additionally, amendments to the bill also mean that those who advocate for LGBT rights could face up to 10 years of imprisonment.

Genevieve Partington, the Director of Amnesty International Ghana, argues that the bill, though not yet law, infringes upon the rights of certain citizens.

The human rights organization asserts that it is essential for the country to embrace and accept individuals from the LGBT community.

Amnesty International Ghana’s statement highlights their opposition to the bill and calls for the protection of the rights of LGBT individuals in Ghana.

They emphasize the importance of upholding human rights and ensuring that all citizens, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, are treated with dignity and equality.
