Parliament holds second reading of promotion of Anti-Gay Bill

During the parliamentary session held yesterday, the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill 2021 underwent its second reading.

Several Members of Parliament were given the opportunity to share their views on the Bill.

Bernard Ahiafor, the Ranking Member on the Constitutional, Legal, and Parliamentary Affairs Committee and MP for Akatsi South, called on all MPs to support the passage of the Bill.

He argued that the Bill does not violate Ghana’s constitution or international laws and treaties. He further expressed his belief that same-sex marriage is an abomination, stating that even animals do not engage in such behavior.

Andy Kwame Appiah Kubi, the MP for Asante Akyem North, claimed that all 275 Members of Parliament support the Bill and believe it should be passed into law.

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, provided an opportunity for any MP who disagreed with the Bill to present their arguments. However, no MP rose to express their opposition.
