Dormaahene appeals to President Akufo-Addo to intervene in the prosecution of Gyakye Quayson

Gyakye Quayson’s trial should be halted – Dormaahene appeals to Akufo-Addo

Dormaahene and President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang Badu II, has made an appeal to President Nana Akufo-Addo regarding the prosecution of James Gyakye Quayson, the MP-elect for Assin North.

Quayson is facing criminal charges for allegedly not renouncing his dual citizenship before filing to contest the 2022 parliamentary elections.

During the 10th-anniversary lecture of John Evans Atta Mills in Sunyani, Osagyefo Agyemang Badu, who is also a sitting High Court Judge, urged the President to intervene and halt the ongoing trial.

He specifically called on the President and the Attorney General, Godfred Yeboah Dame, to take urgent steps to abort the trial and file a nolle prosequi to end the prosecution.

Osagyefo Agyemang Badu argued that the prosecution of Mr. Quayson would not contribute to Ghana’s unity or development.
