Deputy Minority Whip and Member of Parliament (MP) for Banda, Ahmed Ibrahim, has urged the Finance Minister to release the Common Fund to District Assemblies in order to address flood issues in communities.

Ibrahim highlighted that the delay in disbursing the funds has worsened the flooding situation in some areas.

According to the MP, the District Assemblies Common Fund has not been paid since the last quarter of 2022 and the first two quarters of 2023, which has not only affected the assemblies but also MPs.

He called on the Finance Minister to settle the arrears before presenting the mid-year budget review next month.

The Majority Leader, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, also expressed concerns about haphazard building practices in the country, emphasizing that if not properly addressed, it could lead to a major disaster.

Additionally, Governs Kwame Agbodza, the Adaklu MP and Deputy Minority Chief, urged the government to create revenue streams specifically designated for addressing flood issues.

He also pleaded with the Finance Minister to release the Common Fund arrears, enabling MPs to fulfill their mandates effectively.
