The Majority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has stated that the House was unable to proceed with the second reading of the Bill on Promotion of Proper Sexual Human Rights and Ghanaian Family Values, also known as the Anti-LGBT Bill, this week.
The absence of the Chairman and Ranking Member on the Constitutional, Legal, and Parliamentary Affairs Committee of Parliament, Kwame Anyimadu-Antwi, and Bernard Ahiafor, respectively, contributed to the delay.
Despite the directive from the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, for the Business Committee to table the Anti-Gay Bill for debate this week, the House could not fulfill this due to the unavailability of the key committee members.
The motion for the Bill appeared on the order paper on Thursday and Friday but could not proceed as planned.
Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzra, one of the promoters of the Bill, has expressed his concerns and demanded answers for the delay in the progress of the Bill’s work.
