The Majority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dampreh, has expressed the opinion that a change in attitude is necessary to effectively mitigate the impact of flooding in the country, stating that no amount of funding would be enough without such a change.
This statement comes in response to a request made by the Minister for Works and Housing, Francis Asenso-Boakye, to Parliament for the allocation of funds from various sources to address flooding issues.
Last week, the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) reported eight deaths as a result of flooding caused by heavy rainfall.
In an update on government measures to tackle the recurring problem, Francis Asenso-Boakye called for the establishment of a dedicated fund to address flood-related concerns.
However, the Majority Chief Whip highlighted that the attitude of Ghanaians towards building is a significant contributing factor to the issue.
He emphasized that some individuals construct buildings on waterways, exacerbating the problem of flooding.
Therefore, he believes that addressing this attitude towards building practices is crucial in addressing the issue effectively.
