The Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwasi Amoako-Attah, addressed fuel tanker drivers regarding the ongoing construction of roads within the Tema heavy industrial area.

During a meeting held on Thursday, June 29, 2023, the minister acknowledged that the construction progress had not been as fast as anticipated.

Minister Amoako-Attah explained that the slow pace of work was due to engineering challenges and the commitment to ensuring quality results.

He reassured the tanker drivers that efforts were being made to address the road conditions.

The drivers had previously accused the minister of neglecting his responsibilities in constructing and refurbishing the roads leading to the depots where they load fuel.

In response, they initiated a strike on Monday, June 26, citing concerns about the poor road conditions and the potential risks to their lives while transporting volatile substances.

The minister’s meeting with the tanker drivers aimed to address their grievances and provide an update on the ongoing construction efforts.

The drivers expressed their intention to withhold fuel distribution across the country until the roads are adequately repaired.
