Dr. Catherine Amofah, a General Practitioner at St. Michael’s Specialist Hospital (SMSH), has highlighted the dangers of hypertension, referring to it as a silent killer disease that affects people’s lives without them being aware.
She emphasized that hypertension can lead to severe complications such as heart failure and stroke, making early treatment challenging and resulting in loss of life.
Dr. Amofah spoke to the media during a free hypertension health screening organized by SMSH at Lapaz in Accra for residents in the Okaikwei Central and North constituencies.
She explained that high blood pressure usually develops gradually and can be caused by unhealthy lifestyle choices, such as lack of regular physical activity.
Additionally, certain health conditions like heart failure and stroke can increase the risk of developing hypertension.
Dr. Amofah advised Ghanaians, especially the youth between the ages of 18 and 30, to prioritize regular blood pressure check-ups as a preventive measure against hypertension, the silent killer disease.
Beneficiaries of the health screening expressed their gratitude to the hospital for providing such valuable health services to ensure their well-being and good health.
