The High Court in Accra has postponed the hearing for the application of a stay of proceedings in the criminal trial of James Gyakye Quayson, the newly elected Member of Parliament for Assin North.
The adjournment, scheduled for July 4, was attributed to the court not receiving the complete set of application documents.
Mr. Quayson’s legal team argues that the application seeks to halt the proceedings in the High Court so that the Court of Appeal can review whether the High Court’s decision to hear Gyakye Quayson’s criminal trial on a daily basis was appropriate.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Gyakye Quayson are dissatisfied with the High Court’s ruling to conduct the case daily, believing that it could potentially rush the court process.
Consequently, they have appealed to the Court of Appeal to overturn the High Court’s decision. As a next step, they are now requesting that the High Court suspend the case until a decision is made by the Court of Appeal.
The High Court has adjourned the stay of proceedings case until July 4 due to the court’s lack of the relevant documents filed by Gyakye Quayson’s lawyers.
