As the voting process is currently underway, the three political parties, namely the New Patriotic Party (NPP), National Democratic Congress (NDC), and Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), have fielded candidates to compete for the Assin North Parliamentary seat.
This by-election was triggered after the Supreme Court unanimously declared the election of James Gyakye Quayson as the Member of Parliament (MP) for the constituency unconstitutional, resulting in a vacant seat.
Following the declaration of the seat’s vacancy by Parliament, the highly anticipated by-election was scheduled.
The NPP and NDC, being the two major political parties, have made extensive efforts to campaign in the constituency, aiming to sway voters in their favor and secure the seat, thereby strengthening their representation in the legislature.
A total of 41,000 voters are expected to vote in 99 polling stations within the Constituency.
The exercise started at 7:00 am and is expected to close at 5:00 pm.
The New Patriotic Party and the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) have Charles Opoku and Catherine Enyonam as their respective candidates.
The National Democratic Congress has also presented James Gyakye Quayson as their candidate to battle it out for the Constituency’s seat.
