Agriculture has been the highest foreign exchange for Ghana- Dr. Afriyie Akoto

Presidential Aspirant for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Afriyie Akoto says agriculture spearheaded by Cocoa has been the current highest foreign exchange earner for Ghana for over 100 years.

According to him, a publication by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations (FAO) in their article titled FAO In Ghana proves that agriculture contributes to over 55% of Ghana’s GDP, and accounts for over 40% of export earnings, while at the same time providing over 90% of the food needs of the country.

He argued that countries like Brazil, Malaysia, China, Thailand, among others have changed their economic fortunes and gained economic independence with agriculture.

He stated that what these countries have obtained is similar to the primary vision of what he wants to achieve with agriculture for Ghana.

Dr. Afriyie Akoto added that under his term as the President of Ghana, there will be prioritization of agriculture and there will “No Longer be IMF.”
