Tanker Drivers Union initiates strike over poor road network to oil depots

The Ghana National Petroleum Tanker Drivers Union has commenced a sit-down strike to protest against the inadequate road infrastructure connecting various oil depots in Kumasi, Tema, Kpone, and surrounding areas.

The Union has expressed grave concerns regarding the deteriorating state of the road leading to the petroleum depot, specifically highlighting the presence of numerous dangerous potholes.

During a media briefing, Mr. Edmond Baba, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Ghana National Petroleum Tanker Drivers Union, underscored the potential risks posed to their safety due to the highly flammable nature of the fuel.

According to him, the drivers find it unacceptable to jeopardize their well-being in the event of an accident.

In response to the strike action, Mr. Gabriel Kumi, Vice President of the LPG Marketers Association, has urgently appealed to the government to address the concerns raised by the Tanker Drivers.

This call is aimed at averting any potential fuel shortages that may arise as a result of the strike.
