Gloria Gyan Amponsah, the Women’s Organizer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Tain Constituency, located in the Bono Region, has appealed to the government to eliminate taxes imposed on sanitary pads.
Amponsah argues that menstrual health is a natural and essential aspect of women’s lives, and therefore, access to materials such as sanitary pads is crucial for maintaining personal hygiene and dignity.
However, in Ghana, sanitary pads are classified as luxury products by the government.
The Women’s Organizer urges the government to remove the taxes in order to facilitate easy access for females to these necessary items.
She emphasizes that the notion of luxury does not align with the practical use of sanitary pads, and criticizes the government’s stance on this matter as lacking empathy and compassion.
