The Center for Security Dialogue and Peace Advocacy has appealed to the Ghana Police Service to equip its officers with body cameras for deployment in the upcoming by-election in the Assin North Constituency, located in the Central Region.

This by-election follows the Supreme Court’s ruling that declared the previous election, won by James Gyakye Quayson, null and void due to his dual citizenship status while contesting the 2020 elections.

Both the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and New Patriotic Party (NPP) are vying for victory in this highly contested seat.

In anticipation of the by-election, the Center for Security and Peace Advocacy emphasizes the need for robust security measures to prevent any potential incidents that have marred previous by-elections in the country.

Mr. Anthony Acquaye, a Security Expert at the Center, highlights the importance of the police maintaining a heightened level of preparedness to avoid a repeat of unfortunate events, such as the Ayawaso West Wuogon incident.
