The maiden edition of the International Convention of Africans in Diaspora(ICAD) conference 2023, has been launched in Accra, aimed to bring the diasporas to their homeland.

The conference will be held in 3 different places in the U.S.A. namely; Chicago, Maryland and New York. The event will also be held in Ghana on December 2023.

The conference has been scheduled across multiple locations as follows:

The Chicago conference will take place from the 28th to the 29th of July, 2023.
The Maryland conference is scheduled for the 4th to 5th of August, 2023.
The New York conference will be held on the 19th of August, 2023.
Finally, the conference in Ghana is set for the 9th and 10th of December, 2023.

The conference is under the theme “The Truth Need to be Told.”

Speaking at the launch at the Ga Manste Palace in Accra, the President of the International Clergy Association, Bishop Dr. Charles Abbab said the conference is expected to attract both Diasporans and Ghanaians to the event as a way of bolstering tourism and relations between the two countries, through a conference that revives the slavery debate.

The launch brought many personalities including a representative of Ga Mantse, Nii Tackie Teiku Tsuru II, traditional leaders, pastors, diaspora and well-meaning Ghanaians.

It is organized by International Clergy Association (ICA), and Diaspora Legacy and sponsored by Bishop Dr. Charles Abban, CEO of The Rock Hospital in Accra, Ghana, and founder/President of the International Clergy Association (ICA).

According to Bishop Dr Charles Abban, CEO of the Rock Hospital, the program will centre around the wealth of information on the slave trade that has been left undiscussed, especially the need to understand the circumstances that led to the slave trade.

He further emphasized that the primary goal of this conference is to pave the way for Africa to become a superpower.

“By fostering a sense of belonging among the diaspora, it aims to encourage individuals of African descent to view Africa as their home and actively contribute their resources to its development” Bishop Abban reiterated.

Bishop Dr Charles Abban added that the conference will encompass a wide range of activities and businesses aimed at rejuvenating the diaspora community and fostering a spiritual connection with God.

He said these activities will include networking sessions to facilitate meaningful connections and collaborations, a convention of praises and worship to uplift the spirits of participants, and cultural music performances to celebrate the rich heritage of Africa.

Additionally, the conference will feature various impactful activities designed to inspire and empower attendees.

The overarching goal is to create an environment that revives the diasporans’ sense of identity, purpose, and faith, inviting the transformative presence of God into their lives.

Nii Quao Donkor II, Asere Tsono Mantse, said: “We on the other hand are eagerly expecting the diasporas to come and join us in Africa to participate in all we do here.”

In a speech read on his behalf, Mr Akwasi Awuah Ababio, Director of the Diaspora Affairs, Office of the President, said the mandate of the Office was to engage diasporas and help them regain their lost existence to foster economic, political and socio-cultural development.

He said the Diaspora Affairs had successfully engaged many Africans in the diaspora to come home and contribute their quota to the development of the country.
