Perennial flooding in Accra: Speaker of Parliament calls for immediate action

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin, has instructed the Ministries of Finance and Works and Housing to provide a briefing to Members of Parliament regarding flood prevention measures.

Despite previous governments unveiling plans to address the recurring flooding issue in Accra, these efforts have proven ineffective. The heavy rainfall that occurred on Wednesday and Thursday, lasting approximately four hours, resulted in significant damage to properties valued at millions of Ghana cedis.

Recognizing the urgency of the situation, the Speaker of Parliament has directed the two ministries to update MPs on the next steps to be taken.
