Parliament to debate promotion of Proper Sexual Human Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill 2021

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Bagbin, has instructed the Business Committee to schedule a debate on the Promotion of Proper Sexual Human Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill 2021.

The debate is expected to take place on either Tuesday, June 21, 2023, or Thursday, June 29, 2023.

The bill, which was introduced to Parliament on March 31, 2023, by the Constitutional, Legal, and Parliamentary Affairs Committee, aims to criminalize LGBTQ activities and provide protection for children and victims involved in such acts.

The announcement regarding the debate was made by the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joseph Osei-Owusu, during deliberations on the Business Statement presented by the Majority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh.

The scheduled debate reflects the significance and sensitivity of the bill, as it addresses important matters related to sexual human rights and Ghanaian family values.

The outcome of the debate will have far-reaching implications for the country’s legal framework and societal norms.
