Okatakyie Nana Anim I, the Sanaahene of Ati-Tafo Akyem and President of the Royal Chiefs Association of Ghana, has emphasized the importance of upholding Ghanaian culture and showing respect towards it.
During the launch of Sankofa Festival, which was held in Accra, Okatakyie Nana Anim I highlighted a shift in the behavior of the youth and urged them to return to the values of the past.
The launch was under the theme, “Bringing Back the Missing Culture.”
He noted that in previous times, the youth had a deep reverence for cultural norms and regulations, and they were cautious not to disrespect them due to the consequences that followed disobedience.
However, he expressed concern that such reverence and adherence to cultural values seem to be diminishing among the youth of today.
In addition to emphasizing the need for the youth to uphold Ghanaian culture and show respect towards it, Okatakyie Nana Anim I also expressed concern about the lack of awareness among the youth regarding the rich Ghanaian cultural heritage.
He highlighted the importance of educating the younger generation about the customs, traditions, and values of their culture to prevent the culture from fading away.
Recognizing the vital role of parents in shaping the upbringing of their children, Okatakyie Nana Anim I called upon all parents to take responsibility for instilling cultural knowledge and values in their wards.
Okatakyie Nana Anim stated that by providing proper guidance and teaching their children about the dos and don’ts of the Ghanaian culture, parents can contribute to raising responsible individuals who are aware of and appreciate their cultural heritage.
I couldn’t agree more- except I should!1!1! jk
