According to the Majority in Parliament, the Take or Pay agreements signed by the previous Mahama administration have resulted in a significant financial loss to the State, amounting to 320 million cedis.

Samuel Atta Kyea, the Chairman of the Mines and Energy Committee and MP for Abuakwa South, expressed this concern during a press conference.

He emphasized that the Power Purchase Agreement, which includes the Take or Pay clause, was one of the liabilities inherited by the Akufo-Addo administration. Despite the debt, the government is committed to ensuring a stable electricity supply.

Samuel Atta Kyea further stated that President Akufo-Addo and the Attorney General should consider prosecuting those responsible for signing the contracts, as the deals have caused financial loss to the State.

He also revealed that out of the 43 Power Purchase Agreement contracts signed by the Mahama administration, 11 contracts have been cancelled, and others have undergone review.
