The Former Minister of Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Otiko Afisa Djaba, has urged District Assemblies in Ghana not to exclude albinos from the disability common funds.

She emphasized that albinos are considered as persons with disabilities and are eligible to receive their share from the fund, as mandated by the national disability act.

During an interview with the media, Otiko Afisa Djaba emphasized that the district common fund is intended to benefit all categories of disabilities, including persons with albinism. She acknowledged that being different is not easy and commended persons with albinism while urging them not to feel neglected by society.

Kwamla Newton Katseku, the Executive Director of the Ghana Association of Persons with Albinism, expressed concern about the challenges faced by albinos in accessing education, healthcare, employment, and even marriage.

He emphasized the importance of creating awareness and advocating for the rights and inclusion of albinos in society.

These statements were made on the occasion of the 20th International Day of Albinism awareness celebration held in Accra on June 13, 2023.
