Assembly Member of Abofuor Dumesua desperately appeals for assistance with dangerous wooden footbridge

The Assembly Member of Abofuor Dumesua, Amos Yaw Forh, along with the Unit Committee Members, has urgently appealed to the government for repair works to be conducted on a hazardous wooden footbridge.

According to the Assembly Member of Abofuor Dumesua, Amos Yaw Forh, the footbridge is currently posing a significant danger to the community and requires immediate attention and the bridge serves as the primary land connection to their community health center, underscoring its critical importance.

Hon. Amos Yaw Forh stated that the deteriorated state of the footbridge is the sole means of access to their health center, as the alternative route is currently unavailable.

The health center itself, according to him, is in a dilapidated condition, with multiple broken edges, rendering it unsuitable for use and despite the risks, the residents have no choice but to continue using the footbridge due to the lack of an alternative route.

Amos Yaw Forh hinted that the residents of the area expressed deep dissatisfaction with the poor condition of the bridge, which has had a significant impact on all types of pedestrians utilizing the wooden footbridge.

They include students, government workers, traders, pregnant women, and numerous individuals who rely on it for their daily activities.

Their grievances highlighted the widespread inconvenience and potential risks faced by a large number of people in the community as there is a heightened fear among the residents of slipping and falling into the bridge due to its deteriorated condition.

He added that during the rainy season, the footbridge becomes fully flooded and extremely slippery, making it even more challenging for people to cross safely and the combination of water accumulation and the bridge’s poor state adds to the overall difficulty and potential danger faced by individuals attempting to pass through it.

Hon. Amos Yaw Forh expressed his frustration by revealing that he has made numerous attempts to impel the Offinso Municipal Assembly to undertake the construction of a new bridge. However, he lamented the lack of significant action or progress from their side, despite his persistent efforts.

In addition to the bridge issue, Hon. Amos Yaw Forh disclosed that there is a pressing need for electricity extension in the Abofuor Dumesua electoral area. He highlighted that the community’s population is continuously growing, emphasizing the necessity of extending electricity infrastructure to meet the increasing demand for power.

The Unit Committee Chairman for Dumesua Electoral Area, Mr. Dawuda Abdulai, echoed the plea for government assistance in repairing the dilapidated wooden footbridge.

He emphasized the importance of fixing the bridge to facilitate smooth movement and transportation within the area. Mr. Abdulai joined his voice with the community in urging the government to intervene and address this pressing issue.

Mr. Dawuda Abdulai further urged the government to encourage the Abofuor Municipal Assembly to prioritize and promote development in the community, considering the continuous increase in population.

He emphasized the need for infrastructure improvements, social amenities, and other developmental initiatives to support the growing needs of the residents.
