Tragedy struck in Mankessim, located in the Mfantseman Municipality of the Central Region, as a fifteen-year-old girl met an untimely death when a fenced wall collapsed. Fortunately, three other individuals managed to escape the incident, narrowly avoiding a similar fate.
According to a report compiled by Otech FM, it was discovered that Winnefred Abena Binney, along with her three siblings, was bathing behind a fenced wall that separates their house from another. Tragically, while bathing, the fenced wall collapsed on her.
As per the report, the fence wall that collapsed on Winnefred Abena Binney while she and her three siblings were bathing behind was a newly constructed one.
Janet Binney, the mother of the victim, recounted that she was in her room when she heard her neighbors crying and mourning. Alarmed by the commotion, she rushed outside only to discover her fourteen-year-old daughter beneath the collapsed wall.
Upon witnessing the tragic incident, Janet Binney promptly sought assistance from the neighbors, who joined forces to remove the collapsed wall. Regrettably, they discovered Winnefred’s lifeless body lying on the ground.
According to Janet Binney, the mother of the victim, she mentioned that her children had a fondness for playing in the rain.
A sibling of the deceased, who narrowly escaped being affected, shared that they did not witness the actual collapse of the wall. Instead, they discovered their sister’s lifeless body beneath the fallen fence. The sibling mentioned that it was common for them to bathe and play in the rain, but unfortunately, this time turned tragic.
It was reported that the owner of the house, which was still under construction, had been informed about the incident. However, at the time of the incident, the owner was not present, and nobody was residing in the house.
When Otech FM visited the house, it was revealed that the construction was still ongoing, and the owner had not yet moved in.
The body of the deceased has been taken to the Roman Catholic Hospital Mortuary in Mankessim for autopsy and preservation.
The Mankessim Police have been notified of the incident and is conducting an investigation.
