The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has unveiled an updated schedule of events for its presidential and orphan constituency primaries in anticipation of the 2024 general elections.
The series of activities will lead up to the selection of five final aspirants during the party’s National Congress on Saturday, November 4, 2023. In the event of a tie in the candidate election, a run-off will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2023.
Thus far, ten aspirants have obtained nomination forms to contend for the position of flagbearer.
As per the revised timelines outlined in a press release issued by the party on June 12, several key milestones have been scheduled. On Monday, July 24, 2023, there will be a ballot drawing for positions on the ballot paper. The first Notice of Poll will be published on Tuesday, July 25, 2023. Furthermore, a national congress, potentially involving a special electoral college, will take place on Saturday, August 26, 2023.
The revision of the timelines for both the presidential and orphan constituency primaries was authorized during an emergency Steering Committee (SC) meeting held on Tuesday, May 30, 2023. This adjustment was prompted by a press release from the Electoral Commission and the party’s preparations for the Assin North by-election, as indicated in the statement signed by NPP General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong.
