Furious Chiefs and Residents of Assin Gangan in the Assin North Constituency of the Central Region expressed their opposition to the New Patriotic Party, citing their dissatisfaction with the distribution of money, roofing sheets, and clothes in exchange for votes.
During a press conference, several irate residents emphasized that they refuse to trade their votes for food, instead stating that their votes will solely be cast in favor of development.
According to their statements, the residents revealed that while they were at home, a group of individuals wearing NPP shirts approached them with bags, clothes, roofing sheets, and money, seeking their vote. However, they firmly rejected these offerings.
In response, they expressed their intention to retaliate by casting a significant number of votes against the NPP government as a consequence of such behavior.
The residents clarified that they would exclusively vote for James Gyakye Quayson, emphasizing that they are not easily swayed by such offerings. They further added that they differ from the residents of Kumawu who accepted cups of rice and clothes in exchange for their votes, indicating their refusal to engage in similar actions.
Additionally, the Assembly Member for the area, Francis Bright Essilfi, expressed the sentiment that the residents prioritize development over material items such as clothes, food, money, and roofing sheets. He emphasized the importance of long-term progress rather than short-term gratification.
He emphasized that the community’s primary needs are access to clean drinking water and the establishment of a health center, which should be prioritized over distributing items for the sake of securing votes.
The Assembly Member recounted that the community faces numerous challenges and is no longer willing to be deceived by politicians. They are now more discerning and cautious in their approach to political promises and are committed to holding politicians accountable for addressing the real issues affecting their community.
The Assembly Member assured the residents that they should reject any singular items offered by the NPP and instead vote against them in the upcoming by-elections. He emphasized the importance of making a collective statement against such practices and standing firm in their decision to prioritize their community’s long-term interests over temporary benefits.
The Assembly Member highlighted the pressing issue of poor roads in the Assin Gangan community, emphasizing that it is the most crucial project that requires immediate attention and completion. He urged the relevant authorities to prioritize the improvement and maintenance of the road infrastructure as a fundamental aspect of enhancing the community’s overall development.
In an interview with Otech FM, the Regent of Assin Gangan, Mr. James Kumi, expressed his disappointment with politicians who only focus on development during election periods. He regarded this approach as a disgraceful practice.
The Regent urged the residents to accept the items being shared with them but also emphasized the importance of voting against the distributing politicians in the upcoming by-elections.
According to him, it is only the NDC government that has made significant contributions to the development of the Assin Gangan Community and the Assin North Constituency as a whole.
The Regent recommended James Gyakye Quayson as the candidate his community members should vote for in the upcoming by-elections.
He appealed to his community members to either accept the shared items and still vote against the politicians responsible or reject the shared items altogether.
