Youth in Manso Tontokrom in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region have appealed to the government as matter of urgency to provide them with a community mining site to solve employment challenges among the youth in the area.
Speaking to media in a press conference today, 11th June, 2023, at Manso Tontokrom, the leader of the youth in the area, Mr. Kwabena Animonyam, popularly known as Okomfuo Kwaadae said that the lack of employment opportunities has worsened the economic situation in the area.
Okomfuo Kwadae reaffirmed that the youth in the community can longer fight with AsankoGold Mines for jobs and for this reason, the government has to intervene in the conflict between them and the AsankoGold Mining company in the area.
“This is our source of livelihood and our means of survival. Leaving here means we are going to die. We won’t leave”, he said.
Moreover, some of victims who also suffered attacks from military officers after their excavators packed home were taken out by these military officers expressed their concerns about the situation and appealed to the authorities to help maintain peace in the community.
