The Minister of State at the Local Government, Osei Bonsu Amoah has tasked the Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies across the country to ensure the trees planted will not die.
Speaking at the 2023 tree planting exercise at the Nationalism Park in Accra, Hon. O.B Amoah said that the MMDAs have a lot to play to ensure that these trees planted will not die but it will become sufficient for human life.
The Tree Planting exercise is part of an aggressive afforestation and reforestation agenda to restore degraded forest landscapes and to contribute to global efforts to fight climate change.
The theme for 2023 Green Ghana Day is “Our Forests, Our Health”.
The Green Ghana Day was introduced in 2021, by H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo as part of an aggressive national afforestation/reforestation programme to restore the lost forest cover of Ghana and to contribute to the global effort to mitigate climate change.
The Minister of State who doubles as a Member of Parliament for Akwapim South, Mr O.B Amoah therefore urged everybody to take part in this exercise.
He said, the seedlings are given for free and appealed to the public not to pay any money before getting it.
However, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Korle Klottey Assembly, Samuel Nii Adjei Tawia also pledged his commitment to ensure that the trees planted at the Nationalism park will not die.
He confirmed that the Korle Klottey Municipality together with the Ghana Tourism Authority and National Security have privatized the Nationalism Park to private investors to develop the place.
Mr. Adjei Tawia also entreated the good people of Korle Klottey to take part in the tree planting exercise to decorate the Municipality.
