Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Tema Region has expressed worry about a callous attack on Augustine Ahiabor, who is a reporter for Angel Broadcasting Network at Ashaiman.
In a statement released by the Association, Mr. Augustine Ahiabor went to cover a news story on the collapse of a private toilet facility in Ashaiman Lebanon Zone Two (2) on May 25, 2023, and his presence irritated some of the community members, which led to his attack.
This mob was led by an average man and his son who forced the reporter to delete the video shots and in the process, damaged his phone, as well as assaulted him.
The GJA in the notice, pledges to bring the culprits to book, however, Mr. Augustine Ahiabor is receiving medical attention and is responding to treatment.
“We wish to advise the general public to appreciate that journalists work in their interest and so they (the public) must accord journalists the respect they deserve in their line of duty,” the notice said.
